Proper aftercare is crucial for the longevity and effectiveness of your auto glass replacement. Here’s what we tell our customers to avoid after auto glass replacement.

Aftercare Tips for Your Auto Glass Replacement

  • Don’t Hit the Road Immediately. At McConnell Auto Glass, we use a high modulus fast curing urethane, the highest quality on the market, and the dry time is 30 minutes, although we tell customers to wait 45. Driving your car immediately after auto glass replacement can interfere with this process. Most adhesives used for auto glass replacement take about 24 hours to cure fully.
  • Hold Off on the Car Wash. It might be tempting to get your car all cleaned up after auto glass replacement but hold off on that car wash for at least a week. Water can seep into the adhesive, causing it to weaken or fail. If you must clean your car, use a mild detergent and a soft spray to avoid exerting pressure on the new glass.
  • Skip the Decals. You might be eager to personalize your new glass with stickers or decals, but it’s best to wait. The glass needs about a month to cure completely. Adding stickers or decals too soon can interfere with this process.
  • Avoid Ammonia-Based Cleaners. Ammonia can eat away at the vehicle’s protective enamel. This enamel is applied to the body and all the glass on the vehicle, and once it has been removed, it cannot be reapplied. Removing this enamel can also make the vehicle more susceptible to chipping or cracking at the windshield and scratches and damage to the body.
  • Regular Inspections are a Must. While it’s essential to be cautious, inspecting your new auto glass regularly is equally important. Look for any signs of damage, like cracks or chips. If you find any, get them repaired immediately to prevent further spreading.

By following these tips, you can ensure that your new auto glass will remain in good condition. If your vehicle needs auto glass replacement, contact us today.
