In this article, we’ll be focusing on back glass replacement and going over a few essential facts you need to know about the process.

  • Back Glass Composition – First, you should know back glass is made of a different type of glass than is used in windshields—windshields typically use laminated glass, which consists of two layers of glass with a layer of adhesive resin between them, while back glass is typically made of tempered glass. When back glass in a car is damaged, the glass may shatter, which means it almost always has to be replaced instead of repaired.
  • Back Glass Damage – Another thing you should understand about back glass replacement has to do with how back glass gets damaged in the first place. Most damage to back glass occurs due to impacts with flying debris on the road, as a result of temperature fluctuations, or during collisions with other vehicles or road obstacles. The tempered glass used in the rear windows of cars is strong enough to resist damage from less powerful impacts.
  • Replacement Process – Lastly, we want you to know the basics of how the back glass replacement process works. First, our team will order the right replacement glass for your vehicle, making sure the dimensions of the new panel match those of your car. While we wait for that to be delivered, we’ll remove any glass remaining in the window frame and check the interior of the cabin for glass fragments. When the replacement glass arrives, we’ll install it in your vehicle and reconnect the defrosting system if your car has one.
